Tax agents' 0800 self-service line

Tax agents' 0800 self-service line PIN usage and maintenance

If you're a tax agent using our 0800 self-service line, you need to know when to use the regular PIN and when to use the master PIN. You should also know how to reset and maintain your PINs.

Regular PIN or master PIN?

You need two PINS to use the tax agents' 0800 self-service line - the regular PIN and the master PIN. Only the master PIN can access the tax agency's details.

To access your clients' information, you need:

  • your tax agent IRD number
  • the regular PIN allocated to your agency.

When you access our services, recorded messages will take you through each step.

Use the master PIN to access the separate master account to:

  • get restricted information about your agency
  • change or reset the regular PIN.

This master PIN is sent to a senior member of your agency. We suggest you give the regular PIN to all staff members, while a senior member who is readily available holds the master PIN.

PIN resetting

If the regular PIN requires resetting, a senior member of the agency can either:

  • contact our call centre on the tax agents' 0800 number, or
  • use the agency's master PIN number to reset the regular PIN through the tax agents' 0800 self-service line.

PIN maintenance and troubleshooting

If you experience problems with a regular or master PIN, here are some ideas that may help.

  • If a PIN is suspended, it can be reset to the original number, reducing confusion over what the PIN is.
  • The person responsible for the master PIN should be a senior person who is readily available to reset the PIN, such as the office manager.

If you suspend the master PIN, a senior member of the agency should contact our call centre on 0800 456 678 to have it reinstated.
