Technical Standards and Technical and Legal Support Group (TLSG) are a multi-disciplinary legal and technical consultancy supporting segment staff and National Office. They are located in National Office and each of the Service Centres.
The role of Technical Standards in National Office is to manage significant technical issues within the Field Delivery and ensure that they are progressed across business groups.
Their responsibilities include:
- identifying, representing the business and resolving on the most significant technical issues
- taking responsibility for the final determination of significant technical issues where conflict arises
- developing and monitoring standard practice statements
- providing technical advice and assurance for National Office design products
- representing the Service Delivery segment in identifying issues arising from new legislation / court cases to ensure any strategic issues are considered in a time manner
- providing design support for Technical Standards and TLSG nationally
The role of Technical and Legal Support Group in the Service Centres includes:
- provision of legal and technical support to segment staff in resolving complex tax issues, particularly in the context of disputes
- representing the Commissioner in the Courts on litigation matters pertaining to the recovery of debt and prosecutions and Child Support matters
- providing assurance as to the technical accuracy of key tasks performed by segment staff
