Confirm your personal tax summary (PTS)

When to use

If your personal tax summary (PTS) shows a refund of more than $200, you'll need to confirm that the details are correct before receiving your refund.

Refunds of $200 or less

We automatically pay refunds of $200 or less to you 15 days after the date of your PTS. Your refund will either go to the bank account listed on your PTS, or we'll send you a cheque. If you need to change your details before you receive your refund, you should do this as soon as possible. You can amend and add interest/dividend/Māori authority distribution income and expenses as well as update your bank account and address through your online services account, or by contacting us on 0800 227 774.

Exceptions: If you have any amounts owing from previous years (that aren't under an instalment arrangement), or if you have any child support arrears, your refund will be used to pay these first.

What you need to do

Follow these steps to confirm your PTS:

Step... Tell me how... Find out more...
Check income details
Check that the income details on your PTS are correct. If you're eligible for Working for Families Tax Credits, you'll need to check your family details as well.
Check bank account Check that any bank account number shown on your PTS is correct. You can get your refund faster by receiving it in your bank account rather than us sending you a cheque.
You may also need to:
Add interest, dividend or taxable Māori authority distributions
If you have interest, dividend or taxable Māori authority distributions of more than $200 you might need to add this onto your PTS.
Add expenses
If you have expenses to claim, add these onto your PTS.
Add tax credits Check to see if you're eligible for the child tax credit or the income under $9,880 tax credit. You'll need to add these to your PTS if you are.

If you need to make changes to your PTS

If you need to make any changes, you can:

Once the changes are made, we'll send you an updated PTS. If you've already confirmed it over the phone, you don't need to do anything further.

If you don't need to make changes to your PTS

If all of the details shown on your PTS are correct and you don't need to make any additions, you can confirm your PTS through your online services account, or you can call INFOexpress on 0800 257 771.
