Inland Revenue (IR) administered tax revenue and net Customs GST in the year to June 2025 totalled $129.4 billion, an increase of 1.2% since the year to June 2024.

This graph is a stacked line graph that shows the total amount of tax revenue collected for taxes on individuals, GST, taxes on companies and duties and other revenue. On the vertical axis is the total taxes collected in $ billions. The horizontal axis shows the years to June from 2001 to 2025.  

The growth displayed in the graph, covering 25 years from 2021 to 2025, shows that Inland Revenue and Customs GST generally grow each year with total revenue increasing from $34.0 billion in 2021 to $129.4 billion in 2025. Tax revenue has declined in years with significant economic disruptions such as the Global Financial Crises (2007-2009) and COVID-19 (2020). 

Over the last 25 years, growth has occurred in:

  • Net GST from both administering agencies which increased 326% from $9.9 billion in the year to June 2001, to $42.1 billion in the year to June 2025.
  • Taxes on companies, up 260% from $5.7 billion in the year to June 2001, to $20.7 billion in the year to June 2025.
  • Taxes on individuals, up 264% from $18.1 billion in the year to June 2020, to $66.0 billion in the year to June 2025.
  • Duties and other revenue, up 134% from $0.3 billion in the year to June 2001, to $0.6 billion in the year to June 2025.
