You may be aware we’re running a pilot with Baycorp. The aim of this pilot is to engage with customers to resolve and recover debt, and to encourage early compliance.
During the design phase, we excluded any clients of tax agents. However, an error meant that a small number of tax agent clients were included in the selection. We did not intend to include clients of tax agents, and we have made sure they will not be included in the future.
While we identified this quickly, Baycorp had already initiated contact with a small group of clients of tax agents. The clients included in this group have income tax debt ranging from $1000 to $5000. They have already been through our billing cycle and have not taken action to resolve the debt.
When these clients are contacted directly, they have the option to interact with us or their tax agent instead. This will not impact their credit rating, as the debt remains with us.
