Number of KiwiSaver members, by age as at 30 June
This graph shows the number of active or provisional KiwiSaver members as at 30 June 2025, by age bracket.

Between June 2015 and June 2025, the number of members aged:
- 0-17 decreased from 368,079 to 169,409
- 18-24 increased from 360,350 to 393,064
- 25-34 increased from 506,406 to 739,929
- 35-44 increased from 420,794 to 736,662
- 45-54 increased from 423,985 to 590,728
- 55-64 increased from 443,991 to 537,501
- 65 plus increased to 237,634
Notes:
- Before 2016, members aged 65+ are included in the age bracket '55 - 64'.
- Members who were automatically enrolled have a provisional period of 8 weeks in which they can decide to opt out.
- From April 2020 KiwiSaver information is reported from a new system.

This graph shows a comparison between KiwiSaver members and the eligible population as at 30 June 2025.

Notes:
- All members where the member is active as at 30 June 2025.
- The eligible population are those who are eligible to join KiwiSaver, regardless of whether they have joined.
- KiwiSaver membership numbers may include:
- People living overseas. If a KiwiSaver member moves overseas, they can choose to remain a member, even if they no longer reside here.
- people who have died, as the process of closing their accounts and exiting can take time to complete.
- Eligibility figures are indicative. It is the scheme provider, or employer, who determines if someone is eligible to join KiwiSaver.
- The total eligible population data is sourced from Stats NZ as at 30 June 2025.
