Stopping child support

Child support can end automatically, you can cancel it, or you can choose not to collect child support owed to you, including by writing it off.

Child support ends when you, your child or the other parent stop meeting the requirements. Read more about the requirements for child support, and let us know as soon as possible when your situation changes.

Write off child support You can tell us not to collect some or all child support or domestic maintenance payments owed to you. We will write them off in your Inland Revenue account, but you still have the right to collect them privately. This does not cancel child support permanently.
Stop receiving payments from 1 parent Non-parent carers can choose not to receive child support from 1 parent. This is also called waiving payments.
