When you call us, we need to verify your identity before we can access your account.
Using voice ID
Voice ID is a recording of your voice that we can match against your unique voice when you call us. We only use this recording, or voiceprint, to verify your identity and we store it securely.
You will need voice ID for some of our self-service options.
You can ask us to delete your voiceprint at any time.
Registering for voice ID
Registering is easy and only takes a few minutes.
It works best if you call us from somewhere quiet. Make sure you have your IRD number handy when you call.
To register, call 1 of the numbers below and follow the prompts to record a sample of your voice.
| Your location | Phone number |

Calling toll-free from overseas
If you are overseas, you may be able to use our-toll free numbers depending on where you are calling from.

Answering security questions
Asking you some security questions is another way we verify your identity. You must answer the security questions on your own. If anyone helps you or gives you the answers, we cannot accept your responses.
Please note, pretending to be someone else is fraudulent behaviour and may be illegal.
If you are not fluent in English, let us know at the start of the call and we will set up an interpreter for you.
Calling on behalf of someone else
Unless you have been set up with the correct permission or authorisation to act for someone else, we can only talk with you about your own account.
