Use this process to apply for an IRD number if you are living overseas.

If you'll be coming to New Zealand, you may want to apply for an IRD number as a new arrival when you get here.

Before you start

Gather the required documents for you or your child and scan copies of them. You need to get certified for any documents that are not in English.

You only need to scan the pages showing your photo and names when you scan your passport.

Make sure to save your details. You'll also need to sign the form.

Email your form and scanned copies of your documents to:

What happens next

We aim to process your application within 20 days.

We'll text, email or post your IRD number to you. It can take 20 days to arrive if we post it.
