This graph shows the number of individuals who opted-out as at 30 June 2026.

Opt out of KiwiSaver

Between June 2016 and June 2026, the number of individuals opted out of KiwiSaver in a year decreased, from 232,528 to 189,741.

Notes:

• Members who were automatically enrolled have a provisional period of 8 weeks in which they can decide to opt out.
• Opt-out data from June 2020 through to June 2023 was updated as at September 2023.
• From April 2020, KiwiSaver information is reported from a new system.
