Number of KiwiSaver members by enrolment method as at 30 June
This graph shows the number of active or provisional KiwiSaver members from 30 June 2015 to 30 June 2025.
As at 30 June 2025:
- 3.4 million individuals were enrolled in KiwiSaver, an increase from the 2.5 million in June 2015
- 1.4 million individuals joined through automatic enrolment, an increase from 1 million in June 2015
- 302,885 individuals opted in through an employer, an increase from 275,185 in June 2015.
- 1.7 million individuals opted in through a provider, an increase from 1.3 million in June 2015.
Notes:
- Members who were automatically enrolled have a provisional period of 8 weeks in which they can decide to opt out.
- Enrolment method is the original enrolment method used to join KiwiSaver.
- From April 2020, the definition of the enrolment method has changed.
