If the other parent or carer has applied for a child support review, follow these steps to give your point of view and share any evidence you have.
You need to:
- contact us as soon as possible to confirm you want to respond
- submit your response by the due date we give you.
The review officer will consider your information at the review hearing. Everyone in the review will have access to the information you give in your response.
Before you start
Contact us straightaway to let us know you want to respond. Then we’ll update myIR and send you an email or text to let you know the online response forms are ready for you to complete.
If you are not registered for myIR, you'll need to send a written response or print and fill out the paper form.
You'll need:
- your IRD number
- your current address and contact details
- any evidence to support your point of view.
For the future hearing, decide whether you want to:
- attend
- bring a support person
- have a representative in your place.
Your support person or representative cannot be a lawyer or experienced advocate.
Access the forms
Find the main form in myIR under ‘alerts’ - either child support – Receiving carer or Liable parent. It’s called ‘Respond to (the other parent’s) child support review application’.
The 2nd form is called ‘Financial details for a child support review’.
If you do not have myIR, you can download both forms at the end of this page, under ‘Other ways to do this’.
Give your point of view
Tell us:
- your response to the grounds the other person has applied for
- vour view on the information they have provided.
You should include any other information or evidence you want to share. You can respond to each ground separately. In myIR, you can upload documents separately after you’ve responded to each ground.

Give your financial details
You can choose to send us your financial details if they are relevant to the review. For example, if the review is about your income or circumstances.
Giving us your financial details helps the review officer make their decision. If you do not have myIR, use the IR178 form under ‘Other ways to do this’.
Submit your response
Submit your response in myIR or by post, if you’re using the paper form. The address is below.
Once we receive your response and financial details, the review will progress to the next stage, and you cannot submit any further written information.
