Follow these steps to cancel your fringe benefit tax (FBT) registration in myIR or by paper, when you file your final return.

Before you start

Check you meet the requirements to cancel.

When you can and cannot cancel FBT

In myIR, go to your FBT account

Select 'More'

Select 'Cancel account registration'

Log into myIR

Opting out of FBT

If your company is still in business but you want to opt out of FBT, check out how to do this.

Close companies and fringe benefit tax

You can cancel your FBT registration by phone or by post. You must file your final return before cancelling.

By phone

You can call us on 0800 377 772 to let us know. 

By post

If you file by paper, include a note with your final FBT return you have stopped providing fringe benefits but are still employing.
