We are making it easier to apply for an individual IRD number by simplifying the process.
There will be new versions of the IR595 and IR742:
- IR595 IRD number application – currently in New Zealand
- IR742 - IRD number application offshore individual.
These new forms are clearer and can be ordered now. Please destroy any old versions by Friday 3 October.
From Monday 6 October:
- people in New Zealand should use the online service or the new IRD number application – resident individual - IR595 form
- people overseas should use the new IRD number application – non-resident/offshore individual - IR742 form.
Please note that these changes are for individual applications only. They do change the current process for non-individual IRD number applications.
All saved draft applications in myIR will be deleted on Monday 29 September. Users will see a pop-up message about this. You will be able to save drafts from Monday 6 October.
Tax agents registering a new individual IRD number for a client
We’re retiring the service you use to apply for an individual IRD number for your clients. This service is rarely used (only 0.06% of the time) and has had issues with data accuracy and processing.
From Monday 6 October, please use the above services on our website. This change will help reduce extra work and improve data quality.
