Next steps after you complete a depreciation determination application in myIR. Find out about fees, and how to view your submission and withdraw an application.

These steps apply to special depreciation rate determinations and higher maximum pooling values. 

Initiating an application for a depreciation determination 

After you’ve submitted your initial application, we will contact you within 10 working days. Your application will then be available to complete in myIR. 

Completing an application for a depreciation determination

After you have competed your application in myIR, we will contact you within 10 working days with an estimated timeframe and a fee estimate for the total work. We will ask you to accept the fee estimate before we continue. 

We will invoice the applicant for the initial application fee (including GST). We’ll begin to process your application after we’ve received payment. 

Fees

• Initial application fee – The initial application fee is $150 plus GST.
• Processing fee – The processing fee is $75 plus GST for each hour (or part-hour) after the first two hours for work we do.
• Consultant’s fee – If we engage a consultant to advise on the estimated useful life or estimated residual value of the asset, we'll charge you the consultant's fees plus GST.

We may also charge you for any further work carried out by us and a consultant.

There are 2 ways you can pay fees.

Under particulars, use your IRD number. The payment or reference code for depreciation determinations is RUL.

You must have access to the rulings and determinations account and permission to make payments for that account.

Issuing a depreciation determination

We will issue the determination, or decline to issue a determination, within 6 months. If this is not possible, we will contact you to request an extension of the time limit. 

Within 30 days of issuing a determination, or deciding to decline to issue a determination, we will issue you notice of the decision.

Viewing your submission

You can see your submission in myIR by following these steps.

1. Go to Manage my profile
2. Click ‘I want to’
3. Click ‘Search submissions’

Withdrawing an application

You can withdraw an application at any time by contacting us at the email address below. We will charge fees up to the date we receive your written notice of withdrawal.

Sharing information

We may share information in your application with a consultant, if we need professional advice to make your determination. We will not share the information for any other purpose, nor will the consultant.
