To register as a non-individual, you must have a link with the business or organisation you are registering, for example as the director to the company.
If you already have a personal myIR account, you can add access to your business or organisation. If you choose not to, you’ll need to create a separate web logon.
Before you start
To create a myIR account you'll need your:
- name
- email address
- phone number.
If the entity you’re registering for already has an IRD number, you’ll also need:
- the IRD number of the entity you want to register
- the entity name
- your relationship to the entity
- your IRD number or customer identifier, if you have one
- your date of birth
Your entity can be a company, trust, partnership, school, society or club.
Create a myIR web name
Your web name is what will be displayed on your myIR account.
It is not your myIR username and can be different to your legal name.
Swear words or offensive comments should not be added in your name.
Create a web logon
You'll need to check the availability of your chosen logon. If your logon is not available, you'll need to choose another one.
Choose how you want us to contact you
By choosing to register for myIR, you're agreeing to receive electronic communications from us. This means we'll no longer send you paper statements, notices, and some types of correspondence. Instead, we'll let you know when you have letters or secure messages in myIR. You can choose to be notified by:
- email, or
- mobile.

Choose the purpose of your registration
By choosing the purpose of your registration your account will be personalised with the next steps for you. The options are:
- Add an existing IRD number to your account
- Apply for a new IRD number for an individual (including as a new arrival)
- Apply for a new IRD number for a business or organisation
If you choose the wrong option, you can find all the options under the ‘I want to…’ tab.
Create your password and set up two-step verification
For a strong password, we recommend combining 4 words. Uncommon words are better. Avoid passwords you use on other websites.
Passwords must be between 12 and 255 characters long.
Passwords cannot include:
- more than 2 of the same numbers in a row
- more than 3 of the same letters in a row
- common sequential keyboard combinations
- commonly used password terms
- your user ID.
Examples of sequences and words that cannot be included: qwerty, zxcv, bbbb, 12345, 112233, 007, 1995, 2002, P@ssword, letmein, secret, changeme, remember, openup.
Along with your password you’ll need to use at least 1 other method of two-step verification.

Add an IRD number to your myIR account
If the entity already has an IRD number you want to access, you can request this be added to your myIR account. You’ll then need to activate your access by text message or by calling us.
To use text message, you'll need to provide your mobile number. If this matches the number we have on record for you, you'll receive an activation code by text.
If we do not have a mobile number on record for you, or the number you've provided does not match our records, we’ll let you know and you'll need to call us.
Check your email
You'll get an email from us that tells you what you can do in myIR.
