Reporting New Zealand financial institutions (Reporting NZFIs) can follow these steps to register with us for the Common Reporting Standard (CRS).
Trustee-documented trusts that have reportable accounts also need to register.
Who can register for you
If your tax agent has your official written authority to act for you, they can register and report for CRS.
Executive office holders (such as company directors, trustees and partners) can link to your myIR account if they have an existing relationship with your entity showing in myIR.
Someone else can also act on your behalf after they are authorised as a nominated person. Then they can link to your account in myIR or you can let them have access by adding an additional logon.
Let someone act on your behalf
Before you start
Before you register for CRS, make sure you’re an NZFI and required to report to us.
You'll also need an IRD number.
If you do not meet the requirements to apply for an IRD number, email us to discuss your situation at [email protected]
We'll ask you some questions to determine if the entity you're registering is an NZFI that needs to report to us for CRS purposes.
In myIR, select 'I want to...'
Or if you’re a tax agent, go to the Intermediary Centre.
Register for a myIR account if you do not have one already.
Select 'Registration, application and enrolment'
Select 'Register for an international exchange of information account'
Select 'Register for Common Reporting Standard (CRS)'
Fill in your details
Submit your registration

What happens next
We’ll process your registration and notify you in myIR. Then, you can begin reporting.
Your responsibilities
You need to carry out due diligence on all your accounts and provide us with any reportable information.
