When to use this calculator
Use this calculator to work out if you're required to file an IR3 tax return or request a personal tax summary for the 2013 tax year onwards.
For the 2012 tax years and prior, you can use an old non-personalised online calculator Do you need to file an IR3 or receive a personal tax summary or Personal tax summary calculation.
If you're not required to file an IR3 tax return, we will use your salary and wage information that we already hold and any additional information you provide, to let you know if you've paid the correct amount of tax, or whether you have a refund due or tax to pay.
Most people who earn salary or wages pay the correct amount of tax and don't need to do anything at the end of the tax year. However, if you earn income that has no tax deducted, or if you paid too much or not enough tax during the year, you'll need to file a return or get a personal tax summary.
This calculator will let you know if you need to do anything or whether you have a refund or tax to pay.
What you will need
You will need details of:
- interest, dividend or Māori authority distribution
- portable superannuation/veterans pension paid
- any losses from last year.
We already hold your salary and wage income which will be used in the calculation. If any of your income details we hold are not correct then you'll be able to make changes.
After you finish
