An IRD number is for personal use (for example, you or your child) or if you have a company, trust, partnership or other type of business. It's unique to you.

You do not need to pay us when you apply for an IRD number.

Individual IRD numbers

You will need an IRD number for opening a bank account, joining KiwiSaver, when you're earning income and more.

Non-individual IRD numbers

If you have a company, trust, partnership or other type of business, you'll need a different IRD number for each one.
