Use this to calculate the fringe benefit value of motor vehicles that are available for private use by employees. Note: The minimum value of $8,333 must be used to calculate the taxable value once the vehicle's tax book value has depreciated to less than this amount.

What you will need

For this calculation you need:

  • the names of employees who had a motor vehicle available for private use
  • details of each vehicle including purchase price (for leased or rented vehicles you need the market value at the start of the lease)
  • tax book value of motor vehicles owned or leased
  • the number of days that each vehicle was available for private use
  • records of any cash contribution by the employees towards the running cost of the vehicle.
