An Auckland supply manager has been sentenced to community detention with a curfew after falsely claiming GST refunds.
Joon Keat Pan, who works in the health sector, also operated two separate companies called Innovating Life Ltd and JJ Pan Limited.
Pan created false figures for Innovating Life’s GST return and when questioned blamed a fictitious person named ‘Tracey’ for completing the return incorrectly. He then continued to provide false information to Inland Revenue.
There was a similar pattern with the second company JJ Pan.
The total GST the defendant attempted to obtain through his two companies was $64,243.28.
Pan was sentenced on 15 February to six months community detention and 200 hours community work with a 7pm to 6am curfew.
