Working for Families in-work tax credit | The government has announced a temporary increase of $50 a week to the in-work tax credit from 1 April. Find out more: In-work tax credit increase from 1 April

In response to the recent rises to the cost of living, the Government has announced a temporary increase to the in-work tax credit (IWTC) payments from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027 or until the price of 91 petrol is below $3 per litre for four consecutive weeks (whichever is earlier).

The in-work tax credit will increase by $50 a week, from $97 to $147 for those who are eligible to receive the full amount. If you already receive the in-work tax credit, you will automatically get this increase.

If your entitlement changes, we will send you a new notice of entitlement before your first payment date. Your first payment with the increase will be 7 April for weekly payments or 14 April for fortnightly payments.

If you currently receive your IWTC payments at the end of the year, you can change this to weekly or fortnightly in myIR. If you keep your payments the same, you will still receive the increased entitlement that you are eligible for at the end of the year.

If you are not currently registered for Working for Families, you will soon be able to check if you are eligible for the updated in-work tax credit and register on our website.
