Important Update

We are aware many customers will have been affected by flood and other weather related damage and may need help to keep up with their tax obligations, including filing and paying on time. This includes upcoming GST, employer filing as well as tax payments due on 7 February.

We will carefully consider circumstances on a case by case basis, when considering whether we are able to remit any penalties that may have been applied.

Waiving payment penalties

Remission of interest on late payments requires an Order in Council by Cabinet. If this happens further information will be provided.

We may also write off tax, penalties and interest where collection of those amounts would place someone in a position of serious hardship.

If you believe that provisional tax should be reduced for any of your clients due to a likely reduction of income in the current year, you can generally re-estimate the amount of tax you expect to pay and reduce the payments or get any overpaid amounts without having to file a tax return.

Estimation option

If your agency or your clients have lost some or all tax records as a result of the recent flooding, we are able to manage this situation as well.

If you or your clients are impacted by these weather events, you do not need to contact us at this time. However, if you want to get in touch, we are prioritising our support to our affected customers. Please send us a message in myIR, call us on our disaster line 0800 473 566 or if urgent contact your account manager in the first instance.

Further information will be available in the coming days.
