SEP 30Overseas-based student loan repayment due if you do not have a temporary repayment suspension.

JAN 15Interim student loan repayments are due. They count towards your end-of-year repayment obligation.

FEB 8End-of-year student loan repayments are due. If you have an amount to pay, you'll have received a letter or text message from us.
Complete the IR1228 form if you have a student loan and:
- are an overseas-based borrower
- are struggling to make your repayments
- want to negotiate the amount for the current year.
Before you start
You will need:
- your IRD number
- your date of departure from New Zealand
- details of your income, assets and liabilities.
Download the IR1228 form
You can complete it on your computer or print it out to fill in by hand.
Fill in the form
Give us as much information as you can. This helps us to process your application faster.
Send the form to us
Print, sign and send the completed form to us either:
- in myIR, attached to a message (you do not need to sign the form if you send it this way)
- by email to [email protected]
- by post to
