Our outcomes—the long-term results we want to achieve

Inland Revenue Te Tari Taake (IR) contributes to the economic and social wellbeing of New Zealand by collecting and distributing money. Our success is reflected in 3 outcomes:

Revenue is available to fund government programmes through people meeting payment obligations of their own accord.
People receive the payments they are entitled to, enabling them to participate in society.
New Zealanders benefit economically and socially through our working collaboratively across our external environment.

We use a range of indicators to help track our performance in delivering these outcomes.

Outcome 1 – Revenue is available to fund government programmes through people meeting payment obligations of their own accord The taxes we collect for the Government help to fund things like education and healthcare. Taxes also provide money that’s paid out in benefits and entitlements to hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders every year through different government agencies.
Outcome 2 – People receive payments they are entitled to, enabling them to participate in society It’s important that New Zealanders get the payments they’re entitled to at the right times. We focus on helping them get things right from the start by making it simpler and easier for them to access entitlements and refunds.
Outcome 3 – New Zealanders benefit economically and socially through our working collaboratively across our external environment We work with and share appropriate data and information with other government agencies and external partners to deliver better services and outcomes for New Zealanders.
