Budget 2024: The Government has announced FamilyBoost, a proposed new childcare payment to help eligible families with the rising costs of Early Childhood Education (ECE). Find out more: Beehive.govt.nz

You can make payments up to and on the due date. You can find the payment due date on your return, statement or letter and in your myIR account.

If a due date falls on a weekend or public holiday, we'll get your payment on the next working day and you will not be charged a penalty.

For provincial anniversary days:

  • you must be located in the province that is celebrating its anniversary and usually make payments over-the-counter at Westpac, for your payment to be treated as being received in time if received on or before the next working day.
  • if you make payments electronically, you will still need to pay on or before the actual due date as the banking system will still be operating.

For more information see our standard practice statement.

Standard practice statement 21/03 Tax payments – when received in time

If you pay us after the due date, we'll charge interest and penalties on the overdue amounts.
