Number of GST filers by turnover band

In the 2025 tax year there were 671,324 taxpayers registered for GST and filing returns. This number is a 0.1% decrease from the 2024 tax year.

The graph above shows the number of GST filers by turnover band from the year to March 2003 to the year to March 2025.

• The number of taxpayers with turnover greater than $20 million fell by 2.7% in the year to March 2025 (compared to growth of 1.9% the previous year).
• The number of taxpayers with turnover between $2 million and $20 million increased by 1.8% in the year to March 2025 (compared to growth of 1.6% growth the previous year).
• The number of taxpayers with turnover between $500,000 and $2 million fell by 0.5% in the 2025 tax year compared to a 1.3% increase in the previous year.
• The number of taxpayers with turnover between $60,000 and $500,000 fell by 1.1% in the 2025 tax year compared to a 1.1% increase in the previous year.
• The number of customers reporting turnover between $0 and $60,000 increased by 1.4% in the year to March 2025 compared to a fall of 1.9% in the previous year.
