You can make extra repayments to your student loan if you want to pay it off faster. You can either:

  • make one-off payments when you can
  • ask your employer to make extra repayments from your salary or wages.

To make a one-off payment check out ways you can make a payment to us.

Ways of paying

Extra repayments from salary and wages

If you want to make extra repayments from your salary or wages, let your employer know how:

  • much you want the extra repayments to be
  • often you want the extra repayments made.

Your employer will make these extra repayments from your income, on top of your standard student loan deductions. You can also ask your employer to make extra repayments when you earn less than the student loan repayment threshold.

You do not need to give your employer a new 'Tax code declaration – IR330' to have extra repayments made from your salary or wages.
