We provide regular email newsletters about changes, updates or alerts to certain parts of the New Zealand tax system.

You can receive these newsletters by signing up to them through our subscription service.

Our services are grouped into 3 categories. Each category is based on how often updates are sent.

Our important updates and notifications are sent as soon as an item is published on our website.

There are 4 types of notifications.

Important Updates for tax agents

This service provides time sensitive information to tax agents to help them provide timely advice to their customers. These can include detailed guidance on how to apply for Covid Resurgence payments or tax system upgrades. We typically send between 10-40x messages per year.

The Important Updates service complements the updates information and global alert banners published on our website to ensure tax agents are kept fully informed. You can find important updates on the Tax Agents page and the Updates Index Page.

Tax agents

Updates

The Important Updates format is a basic email template with the title “Important Updates”.

The title of each important update is also listed within the News and Updates – Tax Agents Newsletter. If you only want to hear from us on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis, you can subscribe to this newsletter instead. When an important update is published in these channels, a “Closed” status is also displayed if the important update is no longer applicable. (For example, where a closing date has passed for a Covid resurgence application).

We retain “closed” items so that you have a full record of any information we have provided to you.

Tax Policy announcements

This service sends an email notification of any new announcement that is published on the Tax Policy website. This service is intended for customers where time is of the essence. If you only want to hear from us on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis, you can subscribe to Technical and Policy Newsletter – Tax Policy Announcements.

Items published in this service are sourced from the Tax Policy Announcements page, which you can visit at any time.

Tax Policy - Announcements

An announcement includes when a bill has been enacted, a special report has been released, or a public consultation is underway. We typically send up to 50x announcements per year.

Tax Technical – new publications

This service sends an email notification when a new tax technical publication is published on the Tax Technical website. This service is for those customers where time is of the essence. If you only want to hear from us on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis, you can subscribe to Technical and Policy Newsletter – Tax Technical – latest publications and consultations.

Items published in this service are sourced from the Tax Technical Publications page, which you can visit at any time.

Tax Technical - Consultations

Our news, publications and updates newsletters are sent at a frequency you decide. You can choose from weekly, fortnightly or monthly. However, we only send them when they are required. If you do not receive a newsletter when you may be expecting one, it will be because there is nothing to send at that time.

There are 2 types of newsletters.

News and Updates newsletter

This newsletter is focused on updates for tax agents, charities and not-for-profits. You can choose to receive information for both within the same newsletter, or just sign up to 1 of these options.

Charities / Not for profits

This newsletter option will be sent on a quarterly basis. To ensure you receive the newsletter as soon as it is released, we suggest you sign up to the “weekly” frequency option.

From time to time, a short update may also be released when there may be something of interest to you.

Tax agents / intermediaries

This newsletter option will be sent to you based on the weekly, fortnightly or monthly option you have selected for the “News, Publications and Updates” category.

This newsletter complements the Updates information and global alert banners published on our website to help ensure Tax Agents are kept fully informed. You can find important updates on the Tax Agents page and the Updates Index Page.
