In the 2022 tax year 354,200 people claimed donations tax credits (DTC). This number is a 1.9% decrease from the 2021 tax year.

This graph has one line that show the number of people who have claimed donation tax credits per year between the 2004 tax year and the 2022 tax year. This number increased from 373,200 in 2004 to 406,000 in 2008, and has then decreased towards 350,500 in 2021. There was a slight increase to 352,100 for the 2022 year.

This graph shows the number of people claiming donation tax credits (DTC) per year between the 2004 tax year and the 2022 tax year. This number increased from 373,200 in 2004 to 406,000 in 2008.

In 2009 the Government removed the upper limit on the amount of donation tax credits a single person could claim. Removing the donation tax credit cap is likely to have reduced the number of people claiming DTCs (as donations were no longer split between couples), while increasing the DTC amount claimed per person.

Since 2008 there has been a decrease in the number of people claiming tax credits down to 354,200 in 2022.
